Video Review: Endgame: State of Denial

Posted by Caustic Logic
April 30, 2012

Before the BBC Arabic video on the Gaddafi's "torture farms" (including prominently the Khamios Brigade Shed Massacre site) is aired, I wanted to finally start this spot for critiquing the Al Jazeera English documentary released in December. These Anglo-Arab unity videos stand together for their campaign against demonized Green Libya. They also stand against the truth.

This one is long, and says much on a number of subjects, and I am busy. So below, whatever comments and critiques and de-bunks anyone feels like pasting in comments, here's the video for reference.

49 comments:

  1. AJE ,state of denial ,a film by anne reevell,London, United Kingdom - Owner, Moonbeam Films

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2011/nov/28/al-jazeera-muammar-gaddafi

State of Denial will include first time on-the-record interviews with senior figures of the revolution, including National Transitional Council leader Mustafa Abdul Jalil, one of the first defectors; Abdel Hakim Belhaj, the Islamist revolutionary leader who was returned to Libya via CIA rendition; and Brigadier General Abdel Salam al-Hasi, the head of the new Libyan army. Other interviewees include Britain’s Libyan adviser to the Prime Minister, Brigadier General Robin Searby.

The documentary also explores how Libyans grouped Britain among these inner-circle defectors, and explores the tensions within both the Gaddafi family and the rebel/NATO coalition.

The British elites now got everywhere in Libya. Here is an odd moment from a documentary made by Simon Reeve that uncovers a telling detail.
When he gets to the city of Sabha Reeve goes to visit the hut that Colonel Gaddafi lived in when he was a schoolboy.
It is now preserved in the middle of a roundabout. Reeve leafs through the visitors book and finds an effusive entry from a British General called Robin Searby.

General Searby was Tony Blair's Defence Co-ordinator for Libya. Documents later revealed that General Searby had helped negotiate a deal that would lead to the SAS training Libyan soldiers in "counter-terrorism".

Searby defended the programme by saying that the Libyans were woefully behind in counter-terrorism tactics:

    10. The question at the heart of this whole story is - Who was the ventriloquist? And who was the dummy?

Maybe we were the dummy? By allowing perception management with its simplifications, falsehoods and exaggerations to create a simplified vision of the world - we fell into a fake universe of certainty when really we were just watching a pantomime.

And now as the Arab Spring unfolds and reveals the true chaos and messiness of the real world – above all the horror of what is happening in Syria - we find ourselves completely unable to understand it or even know what to do. So those stories get ignored while we follow others with clearer and more simplified dramas which have what seem to be obvious goodies and baddies -

Adam Curtis is a documentary film maker

  3. Islamists played a decisive role in the Libyan revolution against Colonel Muammar al-Qadhafi. The extent of their influence in the new Libya has sparked concerns in the international community. Two days after the storming of Qadhafi’s headquarters in Bab al-Aziziyya, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on the National Transitional Council (NTC) to take “a firm stand against violent extremism” – an apparent reference to Islamist fighters.

At issue, say Libyan officials and Western observers, are Qatar's deep ties to a clique of Libyan Islamists, whose backgrounds variously include fighting in Afghanistan

With the blessing of Western intelligence agencies, Qatar flew at least 18 weapons shipments in all to anti-Gadhafi rebel forces this spring and summer,

A team of about 60 Qataris helped set up rebel command centers in Benghazi, the mountain city of Zintan and later in Tripoli, according to Qatari Staff Colonel Hamad Abdullah al-Marri, who later accompanied Mr. Belhaj on the march into Tripoli on Aug. 22,

  5. Separately, approximately a dozen other Qatari-funded shipments, mostly containing ammunition, came to Libyan rebels via Sudan, according to previously undisclosed Libyan intelligence documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal as well as officials.

Much of Qatar's aid to the Libyan revolt has been guided by an influential Libyan cleric named Ali al-Sallabi.

Ali al-Sallabi helped to orchestrate more than a dozen of the shipments from Qatar, including 10 through Benghazi, these people say. At least three others went to the Western Mountains, where Mr. Belhaj was a top leader of rebels being trained by Qatari and Western advisers.

Ismail al-Sallabi said Qatari shipments came through the brothers not out of any ideological solidarity with Doha but because these militias were the most organized and effective forces on the ground.

People close to Mr. Belhaj emphasize they operated under the auspices of the NTC's Defense Ministry and that any weapons shipments were blessed by transitional Defense Minister Jalal al-Dugheily.

_ Importante to watch the Video of aljazeera ( I & II Parts).
We can't have any respect for NTC & Ocampo.

_ 1st Part, NTC says: just two chances for Saif: or he escape or he will be killed in his way to Tripoli! ( Bastards! )

_ They ( aljazeera ) in conversation with Ocampo discuss the Tape of Saif - the one he said "liquidate them". They
      force the
_ interpretation of "They" as Civilians, not as Alqaeda Thungs. But in 2nd Video, we can realize that Saif is

speaking about Alqeda. And the Target of Saif/ Gaddafi was all time alqaeda not Benghazi ppl. ... But better
_ U watch it! They can go on spamm public opinion about saif demande the killing of Civilians. Was not Truth.

Other importante thing the NTC CONFESS ( U can understand the CYNISM!!) Mercenaries was PROPAGANDA. Shameful

_ Aljazeera report is + a striptease of the NTC/ICC/NATO "angels" than an demonstration of Saif criminality

  20. Honorary doctorates for retired generals
    Tripoli, April 13:

    http://www.libyaherald.com/honorary-doctorates-for-retired-generals/

Two retired brigadiers-general, Mohammed Shafiq Abu-Haibah and Safwat Al-Zayat, have been awarded honorary doctorates by Misrata University in recognition of the media role they played during the Libyan revolution.

The doctorates were also presented for their efforts in drawing up operational field plans which are said to have contributed to winning many of the battles against Qaddafi forces.

Abu-Haibah is reported as saying that supporting the revolution came naturally but that a number the presentations on Al-Jazeera and Arabiya TV channels were not mere analyses of the military situation last year.

They also contained coded messages for the fighters on the ground.

-According to Khaled, more than 400 prisoners escaped Abu Salim in four separate break-outs prior to and after the incident:
in July 1995, December 1995, June 1996 and July 2001.

Among the escapees were men who then fought with Islamist militant groups in Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, he said.

-The only other description of the incident comes from a report by the National Front for the Salvation of Libya, an opposition political group based outside Libya.

    - In total, 1,170 prisoners died, the report says, but it provides no names.
