Gaddafi supporters outside Libya form new grouping
BBC News via Uruknet

Members of Colonel Gaddafi's former government outside Libya say they are starting a political movement aimed at radical change, the BBC has learnt.Update, May 7: This was no quick flashin the pan that burned itself out. Just now, at least per the on-the-ball Libya 360˚ on May 4, the LPNM has recently released its founding declaration, in Arabic and English. I haven't read it yet, but here's the link:
In a message which appears to be genuine, one of Gaddafi's senior officials said they wanted to prevent the outbreak of another civil war.
The man asked to remain anonymous to protect relatives still in the country.
[...]
Last week Saadi Gaddafi, another of the former leader's sons, who is in exile in Niger, warned of an imminent uprising inside Libya.
[...]
The former senior official told the BBC that most of the leadership of what he calls "Green Libya" were forming the Libyan Popular National Movement.
In a statement posted on several websites the group said the situation in Libya "is becoming worse every day.
"There's very little interest from the international media in the many horrors that have taken place. We are reorganising ourselves outside Libya in an inclusive political movement that would encompass all Libyans who understand the terrible reality of Libya," it said.

@Hurryia yes i saw that that as well on
ReplyDeleteCyrenaica, the eastern region of Libya, has elected a regional congress and declared autonomy from the capital Tripoli.
Thousands of major tribal leaders and militia commanders attended a celebratory ceremony in the region’s center Benghazi.
The congress stated that Cyrenaica had suffered decades of marginalization under the ouster ruler Muammar Gaddafi. Now the oil-rich region extending from the coastal city of Sirte to Egyptian border is taking its fortunes into its own hands.
The congress appointed Ahmed al-Zubair Ahmed, who was a political prisoner under Gaddafi and currently is a member of NTC, as leader of its governing council, Al Jazeera reported. Despite being a part of the Libya’s official ruling body, Al-Zubair pledged to protect the rights of the eastern region.
Libya’s National Transitional Council, which started uprising against Gaddafi in Benghazi and moved to Tripoli after his overthrow, repeatedly voiced objection to the planned autonomy. They said Libya’s transformation into a federal state paves the way to eventual split-up of the North African country.
“This is a blatant call for fragmentation,” said Fathi Baja, the head of political committee of the NTC. “We reject it in its entirety. We are against divisions and against any move that hurts the unity of the Libyan people.”
The East, however, is pushing for a return to a system of rule that existed before the coup of 1967 which brought Gaddafi to power. At the time Libya was divided into three states – western Tripolitania, south-western Fezzan and the eastern Cyrenaica (or Barqa in Arabic).
Next you know they are going to demand Indepedence as well.

Wanis Mabrouk (Education and Dawa)
Wanis Mabrouk is a Libyan-born British citizen who was described in 2006 as aprofessor of Islamic studies in Wales, probably referring to the EIHS campus there.
As noted above, Mr. Mabrouk is the President of the European Assembly of MuslimImams, launched by the FIOE earlier this year.
Saudi Arabia/FIOE also has strong ties to the Saudi Muslim World League (MWL) and theWorld Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY).
IGMG : The FIOE maintains close ties with Milli Görüs, the the Europe-wide organizationrepresenting conservative Islamic Turkish immigrants.
Until recently, the FIOE was located at the Markfield Conference Center inMarkfield, U.K., a small village about 12km northwest of Leicester.
The Markfield offices were located in two small rooms rented from the Islamic Foundation, a well-known U.K.Islamic institution tied to both the Muslim Brotherhood and to Pakistan’s Islamist party known as the Jamaat-e-Islami.
the good representation of their Imams before the European decision makers. On its way towards achieving such goal, the delegation of the assembly’s leaders, headed by Sheikh Wanis Al-Mabrouk, the head of the assembly, visited the European Union headquarters in Brussels, on January 30, 2009.

LPNM still doesn't leave much trace. However, I do notice a video of an anti-Jibril march in Sirte, uploaded 7 May 2012, and also appearing at the Istekhbarat AlLibiya facebook page

Did they not see in people’s faces, from humble ordinary folk, through middle class officials to gun-totting militiamen, did they not see the enthusiasm combined with determination that now unites virtually all Libyans, regardless of background?
Perhaps what they did not appreciate was the “Saadi effect”. Earlier this month Muammar Qaddafi’s third son Saadi gave an interview from his house arrest in Niger in which he predicted an imminent uprising of pro-Qaddafi supporters and his own return to the country. Broadcast on al-Arabiya, his telephone conversation coincided with the launch of the Libyan Popular National Movement, whose web site paints a picture of a Qaddafi golden era which the majority of Libyans will find very hard to remember.

ReplyDeleteLIBYA’S ELECTIONS ARE DELAYED. NO NEW DATE SET.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that the majority of Libyans will be pleased by this development.
National instability, lack of public support for NATO’s incompetent NTC, the ongoing, flagrant human rights violations, regressive and repressive new laws and elections that hold no promise of being either fair or democratic, have effectively undermined the ability of the regime to move forward.

ReplyDeleteTHE LIBYAN POPULAR NATIONAL MOVEMENT ELECTION BOYCOTT STATEMENT
The situation in Libya is becoming worse every day. With very little interest from international media many horrors have taken place in all parts of the country: systematic torture of prisoners, extra-judicial killings, armed tribal conflict, economic and political foreign domination, robbing of national wealth, the reality of Al-Qaeda's control of parts of the country, the invention and establishing of fragmented regional and cross-border identities to replace the national unifying identity, anti-black politics amongst the armed militias, the enforced displacements of whole tribes, the flight of a third of the population to neighbouring countries for fear of persecution.
ReplyDeleteIn this atmosphere of horror, millions of Libyans who supported the late leader Muammar Gaddafi are being excluded from any real political solution in the country. They live under fear of retaliation and cannot exercise their civil rights or feel safe enough to oppose any decision taken by the militias or the weak central authorities in the country.
As a result, we are re-organising ourselves outside Libya in an inclusive political movement that would encompass all Libyans who understand the terrible reality of Libya and insist that only through a genuine and radical change can Libyans avoid the danger of another civil war funded and maintained by foreign agendas. The following Declaration is concerned with the founding of the “Libyan Popular National Movement” and has been written and agreed-upon by most of the political/social/military leaderships of Green Libya.
